Making challah bread

Buttercup class have been learning what it means to be Jewish. This week the children have been finding out about Shabbat. To help the children understand what happens during Shabbat they made challah bread. They had a great time kneading the bread and enjoyed tasting the delicious sweet bread they had made.

Road Safety

This afternoon Buttercup class put their road safety knowledge into action. The children practised crossing the roads in small groups. All the children were extremely sensible and demonstrated a good understanding of how to keep themselves safe. Well done everyone!

Our house point champion was Max who has made super good choices all week both in his learning and out in the playground.

Rights Respecting Afternoon

We had a rights respecting afternoon. We looked at the focus rights we are celebrating in our school. We got into our house groups and took part in four different activities that related to a right. We have the right to a voice so had a debate with Mr Sandercombe. We have the right to rest and play so took part in a yoga session with Miss Smallshaw. We have the right to be safe so discussed road safety with Mrs Peters, (over the next week we will put this into practise by going out and crossing the road). We have the right to be healthy so took part in a food tasting experience with Miss Bull and discussed the importance of a balanced diet.

Looking after our teeth

Today Buttercup class had a visit from Tracey Andrews, an oral health educator. We learnt about what our teeth are for, (giving your shape face, eating and talking). We discussed how we can care for our valuable teeth, what foods contain sugar and how to brush correctly. We discovered that you shouldn’t rinse your mouth after brushing as the toothpaste needs to coat your teeth in order to protect them. We found at that if you are going to use a mouth wash it is best to use it before brushing.
The best part of the morning was watching our friends using the disclosing tablets.
We all received a goody bag to take home.

Open the book

This afternoon we were treated to an ‘Open the Book’ assembly. The assembly focussed on the value of justice through the story of Jonah and the whale.

In the story Jonah ran away when he was given a difficult task by God. We learnt that Christians believe that God does not leave us alone with our struggles. He stands in the way when we run and challenges our selfishness.

We learnt that Christians believe that God helps us to become better people.

We really enjoyed the assembly and are working hard to be the best we can be.

Sense Detectives

We have been learning about our senses. We then used our senses to solve the problem of the missing teddy. We used our sense of taste to find the teddy that liked apples. We used our sense of sound to find the teddy that squeaked. We used our sense of touch to find the teddy that felt furry. We used our sense of sight to find the paw print that measured 10cm. We used our sense of smell to find the teddy that was minty. We put all the clues together and discovered that the missing teddy was called Daniel. We were great detectives.
