Fruit Salads

Over the last few weeks we have been thinking about fruit salads.  We have tasted and evaluated some shop bought fruit salads.  We used this experience to design our own fruit salads, including a logo to persuade people to buy them.  We also thought about what the fruit salads would be put in, whether the materials would be recyclable or reusable.  Finally we were able to eat them.

Praise Assembly

This week the handwriting award went to Darcy who used her best handwriting and presentation skills in her story writing this week.

Everyone in Buttercup Class wrote fantastic stories this week but two really stood out as both children had thought about the effect their writing has on the reader through their choice of language and even sense of humour. Well done Jack and George.

The housepoint champion was awarded to Brooke for working hard to be a kind friend and make good choices.

Well done everyone!

Story writing

Over the last few weeks we have been thinking about the story No Bot the robot with no bottom by Sue Hendra. We learnt this story off by heart, wrote a class story about a robot who lost an arm and finally wrote our own stories about a robot who lost a different body part. A selection of these stories are below. Enjoy.

Moon landing

A few weeks ago we learnt about the famous astronaut Neil Armstrong and how on the 20th July it will be 50 years since he first stepped on the moon.

Jack shared this poster with the class. Mrs Peters was very impressed with how much everyone could remember.

Praise Assembly

This weeks handwriting award went to Daniel and Ethan for making a big improvement in their presentation.

Both Adriana and Lilah were awarded star of their week for always challenging themselves.

The house point champion is Zach for impressing us with his understanding of time this week.

Cultural Champion

This week we welcomed a cultural champion into school to help us learn about and understand the Muslim faith. We learnt about the 5 pillars of Islam, enjoyed looking at the Qur’an and discovering that not only does the writing look very different to English but that it was written right to left. We also learnt the hijab, why it is worn and got to wear one. We compared the prayer styles of Muslims and Christians and tasted some of the treats that would traditionally be eaten during Eid.

Investigating the weather – Snow

This week we have also thought about temperature. We talked about how we measure temperature usng a thermometer and had a go at using one. We were amazed to discover the temperature on the playground. We then made and played with fake snow to help us think about cold weather. We loved watching the powder expand. We talked about the seasons when we experience cold weather and whether we prefer hot or cold weather.
